The Boston Aquarium

Tuesday July 21, 2009
We were all so tired that we got quite a late start, catching the tail end of the “famous” Holiday Inn Express complimentary breakfast. Boston was waiting for us but so was pouring rain. We donned long pants, closed shoes and rain jackets and set off for the famous New England Aquarium. We were supposed to take the metro, but the hotel shuttle guy drove us straight there for a little extra money. Today was a special treat for Logan, as he loves all things ocean, especially octopi. The rest of the boys decided to tag along, because it sounded like fun. Our teenagers, however, connected with Nick’s former Nanny - Aubrey and set off to explore the city with her. The Aquarium was very crowded at first and it was hard to see many of the exhibits. Due to the rain it had been taken over by the stroller set, and about 50 daycamps. We escaped to a lunch out in the town and unfortunately my boys did not behave very well. Too much vacation, perhaps? Aunty Up and Logan decided to hang out on their own for a while. I scolded my boys and they apologized, and we went back to the Aquarium which had emptied out quite a bit and had a nicer afternoon. The teenagers reappeared around 5pm toting loot from an unexpected stop at a mall. We hung around the area after the Aquarium closed for a special treat for Mama. At 7pm we went to see the new Star Trek movie in IMAX. Wow. It was the best Star Trek movie ever made and Mama and Aunty Up had the best time ever. Cheering and clapping and enjoying a totally awesome addition to the mythology that we grew up with. Sure hope they make a new series or at least another movie. The kids liked it too and we had the best evening of the trip after the movie. We stopped for ice cream, played in the fountain downtown and had fun on the Metro as we headed back to the hotel for our second night.
